Satellite Internet VPN

During communication, the data is encrypted and encapsulated, or wrapped, with a header that provides routing information in order to be sent across the public Internet in a secure fashion; this is known as tunneling. Encryption and other security mechanisms allow the data to pass through the Internet (or any network) without being intercepted, since the tunneled data is indecipherable without the proper decryption keys. Thus a VPN connection logically behaves as a secure point-to-point connection to the end point, though it uses a public network to transport its data.

The most widely used VPN architecture over shared public networks is the client/server model. Another model often used by “teleworkers” or “franchise remote users” uses a Private Satellite Network, also offered by C-Com. The use of many of the VPN clients on remote user’s workstations will result in a performance degradation when compared to the normal performance of the WildBlue Internet. This is a result of data encapsulation, which prevents the normal WildBlue PEP (performance enhancing Proxy) techniques to be used effectively. When this becomes an issue, Private Networking Solutions can provide the same corporate data access security without the use of VPN client software at the remote station. Such is the recommendation by Wildblue.

The Different services offered by Wildblue come in two distinct versions. The retail satellite uses which uses a .67 centimeter dish and although it may work with your VPN, service will be slow at best. You might consider the Var service providers for dedicated services and support.

Notice: Satellite Internet is not well suited for use with Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) service such as Voyage or Skype, real Time Interactive Gaming , Virtual Private Networks (VPN) or Day Trading (stock market). There is a 2.88 second delay in the signal caused by the distance between us and the satellite. The overall effect is undesirable for the performance in most of these situations.
